Only Hope

“O God, You are my hope.”

Hope is a tricky thing.  It’s easy to lose and, before you know it, you’ve put it in the wrong place.  It can be like a pair of keys - you need them to get where you’re going, but they tend to disappear when you need them most.  But we’re called to a better way.

Our hope isn’t meant to be like a set of keys that we pick up and set down - only using it when we need it.  Our hope is meant to be like a pair of contacts or glasses - a necessary gift that focuses our vision, provides the right lens to view the world, and makes every-day life possible.

God is our only hope.

When we approach hope like it’s a pair of contacts, it’s obvious that God is the only One who can fill our prescription.  If we place our hope in the One who never changes, the One who never fails, the One whose love is everlasting, the One who always cares - our hope will never be dashed.  If we have the courage to put all of our hope in God, we will never truly be disappointed.

Sisters, I’m blind as a bat - if I put my hope in the Lord and relied on Him like I rely on my contacts, my life would look different.  I’ll own it - I need to work on it.  But today, I’m praying that each of us will have the courage to surrender more to Him, rely more on Him, and place more of our hope in Him.  It’s a tall order, but if we have the courage to place all of our hope in God, to let Him be our only hope, we can live in the true freedom that only God offers.

Father,

Thank You for providing us a safe place for our hope.  Thank You for knowing us and choosing us.  Thank You for being so trustworthy.

Teach us how to rely on You.  Teach us how to need You.  Help us get comfortable with putting all our hope in You.

God, we love You.  Be patient with us as we learn how to put all our hope in You.  Amen.
