Hail Mary

Statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary against a mauve wall

“All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and His brothers.”

Today is the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and it couldn’t be better timing.  With all that our country is going through, we could really use an intercessor.  Between the coronavirus and George Floyd, our country feels like it’s coming apart at the seams.

If you’ve tuned into the news recently, I’m sure you’re as heartbroken as I.  All of the strife, the unrest, and the violence is heavy.  Watching the coverage, I’m sad, so sad for everyone involved.  But - I’m reconvicted of our need for God - we alone are not enough.

We need help.

It’s true.  We need help.  We need divine intervention, so today, I ask that you join me in asking for our Mother’s intercession for our nation.  As the disciples did with Mary in the upper room, let us come together with one accord to pray both for justice and for peace.

Blessed Mother - would you pray with us?  Jesus, come and heal our broken nation.  Come and heal our broken communities.  Come and heal broken hearts.  Come and heal broken trust.  Come and heal disagreements.  Come and heal disappointment.  Come and heal anger.  Come and heal division.  Come and heal cruelty.  Come and heal all the broken places within us so that we can bring Your healing to our communities.

Hail Mary,

Full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
