He Came for You
“For the love of God is this, that we keep His commandments.”
Sisters, as much as I strive to keep the commandments, I’m such a sinner. I really am. I fail all the time. I love the Lord so much, and yet, I struggle. And even though this confession is to be expected, it’s still hard to admit. Let’s just say that humility of any kind absolutely does not come easily to me.
It’s hard for me to admit failure or weakness. I want to believe I have all the answers, all the solutions, and every ability needed to solve all my problems. So, naturally, I fail at keeping His commandments. And that’s why Jesus came to save us. He tells us,
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.
He came to bring glad tidings to the poor (aka… me). He came to proclaim liberty to the captives (aka… me). He came to bring recovery of sight to the blind (aka… me). He came to let the oppressed go free (aka… me). He came for the proud. He came for the broken. He came for all of us. No matter my vices, no matter my failings, no matter my sins - He came for me. And He came for you.
Whatever you’ve done, whatever you’ll do - Jesus covers it. God knew that you couldn’t be perfect, that you would break His commandments - and so He sent Jesus. Jesus came to bring glad tidings and liberty and new vision and freedom for me and for you - and that’s something to rejoice about.
Father,
Thank You for Your mercy. Thank You for Your great love. Thank You for coming to offer us freedom and newness.
Father, help us to honor You with our lives by trusting in Your mercy. Help us to be more aware of our need for You. Teach us how to lean on You more deeply.
God, we love You. Help us to be humble. Amen.
