Shine

Bright beam into a purple night sky

“They all ate and were satisfied.”

God didn’t just provide “enough” with the loaves and the fishes - He provided enough so much that all were satisfied.  All that gathered could eat their fill. They had leftovers! There wasn’t any lack.

There was no lack because our God is a God of abundance.  There is always plenty. Our God knows the little we have, and He transforms it.  He makes it new; He’s not worried about our littleness because He is so big. He can do anything.  No matter what fears or concerns or confusion that we face - even in this time of Advent -

He has a plan for provision.

When I forget His abundance, I’m tempted into fear.  I’m tempted to be afraid of being single forever. I’m tempted to be afraid that God will run out of good guys; I’m tempted to be afraid that there will be no one left - no one holy, no one kind, no one attractive, no one strong.  When I don’t flood the zone of my heart with belief in God’s abundance, I’m tempted into fear.

But our God IS abundant.  He’s proven Himself abundant.  He’s shown Himself faithful. This Advent, I encourage you to put yourself into the shoes of the disciples at the feeding of the 5,000.  Imagine their awe at what Jesus could do with so little. He let His abundance shine back then - for them. Just imagine how He will shine now - for you.

Father,

Thank You for being an abundant God. Thank You for being a faithful God. Thank You for choosing to be a loving God, a compassionate God, a kind God. Thank You for always coming through for us.

Father, please help us to trust in Your abundance. Help us to trust in the hope You offer us with Your love.

Teach us how to believe in Your faithfulness more deeply.

We love You. Amen.
