Wired for Good
“The Lord takes delight in his people.”
It is hard to allow God to take delight in me when I don’t take delight in myself. When I fall on my face, when I count my sins, when I blame myself - it’s hard for me to be okay with being loved, with being delighted in.
It is hard to let yourself be loved when you don’t love yourself. Have you ever rejected a compliment because you didn’t feel worthy of it? I have. I think, “No, no - I’m not actually good at that.” Or “Oh, wow. Well I have to work really hard to be that way, so it’s not really something true about me.” But that’s wrong because…
God doesn’t let anything define you except His love.
No matter what we do, no matter what we say - we are born GOOD. Even though we fall and make mistakes and sin, God doesn’t allow anything to take our goodness from us. It’s built into the DNA of who we are as children of God. We’re wired for goodness.
That’s what God sees when He looks at us. That’s what He sees when He looks at you. He sees past all of the mess you bring, and He looks directly into the heart of who you are. And that’s what He delights in.
God delights in your goodness.
He loves who He made you to be. He loves your humor and your heart. He loves your individuality and your passion. He loves your smirks and the sound of your laugh.
He loves all of you. He loves the best of you. And He will love the worst out of you. Always. His love trumps all of it. Every single thing.
His love trumps everything.
Romans tells us that nothing we can do will separate us from the love of God. It’s just true. He won’t let anything remove you from His love. And He delights in you. Nothing you can do will ever change that.
Father,
Oh Father, we love You so much. Thank You for loving us. Thank You for wanting us. We’re so grateful that You choose us time and time again - even when we fall, even when we need help.
Thank You for always coming to our aid. Thank You for seeing past our weaknesses and our sins and our failings to the core of who we are. Thank You for ignoring shame and coming straight for our hearts.
Thank You, Abba. We love You. We need You. We want You.
