The Better Bargain

“Store up your treasure in Heaven… For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.”

Store up your treasures in Heaven - we hear that often, but what does it actually mean?  Webster’s defines treasure as something of great value or worth.  While our culture would tell us treasure is money, success, and stuff - our faith tells us something else.

Our treasure is our God.

Our treasure is intimacy with Him.  Our treasure is relationship with a living God.  Every choice, every decision we make is either one that leads closer or further from Him.  When we store our treasures in Heaven, we store every time we say “Yes” to Him.  Every time we say, “Yes” to virtue, “Yes” to holiness, and “Yes” to calling is a “Yes” to God - it is an act of treasuring.  It is when we value our treasure, God, more than the alternative.

The beauty of this treasure is that He treasures you.

God treasures YOU, and He treasures your heart.

When we allow God to be our treasure, we’re actually getting the better bargain.  By making God our treasure, we actually provide our hearts more joy than any temporary delight.  He is love incarnate. He came to love, and when we make Him our treasure, He returns our small pieces of love exponentially.

We’re always given more than we give.

So keep it simple this Friday - let Him be the joy of your heart.  Song of Songs says our God is “Him whom my soul loves.” Your soul aches for the Lord.  Tap into it. Let Him be the song of your heart and the lover of your soul.

Father,

Yours is the kingdom.  Yours is the glory. You are the love of our lives.  You are the one we truly want. We see your goodness in others and are drawn to it.  Father, help us to set our eyes on Heaven. Father, You sent Your son, and He was the Savior of our dreams.  He was the best teacher this world will ever see, and He taught us how to pray. Father, we pray that You might reign in our hearts as it is in Heaven.  Because in Heaven, our hearts are totally Yours. Transform our hearts and our lives that we may treasure You as we will in Heaven. As it is in Heaven. Let it be so, Lord.
