What Do You Sow?
Whoever sows bountifully will reap bountifully.
When you look at the life of Jesus, it’s clear that He sowed deeply. He dove headfirst into scripture as a boy, got lost because He was captivated by His Father’s house, started His public ministry with 40 days in the desert, sought the hidden places to be with His Father during His ministry years, befriended & loved His followers deeply (men and women alike), and invested in His disciples by sharing His life with them completely.
And boy, did He reap bountifully.
Look at the church - broken as she is, she’s in almost every corner of the world.
And we have the same Father that Jesus did. We can have faith that when we sow abundantly, like Jesus, our harvest will be bountiful.
In fact, Paul shares further into the scripture:
God is able to make every grace abundant for you,
so that in all things, always having all you need,
you may have an abundance for every good work.
Paul tells us that we have everything we need for ALL things; and for every good work, God promises abundant grace. For ALL things - not just some, not just the ones we know how to deal with, but ALL things.
God promises abundant grace for ALL good works.
You see, when we sow good things, we have access to abundant, bountiful grace. When we sow abundantly, we will reap abundantly.
Because it matters what we pour into.
What we pour into changes us and the world around us.
When we pour into prayer, we are made new. When we pour into friendships, they flourish. When we pour into service, our hearts are joyful. When we pour into gratefulness, our belief grows. When we pour into joy, we experience happiness.
BUT - when we pour into disappointment, we lose hope. When we pour into stress, our anxiety deepens. When we sow into sin, our hearts harden. When we pour into complaining, we become bitter.
What we sow, we reap.
In our offices, in our homes, in our churches, in our sports leagues, in our communities - we reap what we sow.
So, ask the Father today:
What am I pouring into? Father, into what am I sowing? Do I sow Your goodness? Do I sow into faith? Into new friendships and old? Into mercy and light?
Or am I sowing bitterness? Disappointment? Unbelief? Discontent?
We all sow both good and bad - it’s just our humanity, but there is always more than enough of God’s endless mercy available for the times when we sow what we shouldn’t.
And there is ALWAYS boundless grace for the times you’re striving to sow good.
So today, sow goodness. Sow love. Sow gratitude. Sow beauty. Sow belief.
For you have a GOOD God, who has counted you worthy of love.
And that, my sisters, is a good reason to sow hope.
Father,
Thank You for Your goodness. Thank You for meeting us in joy. Thank You for providing all the grace needed to live wholly and fully for You. Father, help us to live lives filled with abundant faith, with abundant hope, and with abundant joy. Help us to sow beauty and goodness so we can reap beauty and goodness. Father, Your way is a perfect way. Help us to be perfect as You are perfect. Help us to believe that we can live and witness beautiful lives through Your perfect love.
