Peace
“Peace be with you.”
If you’re anything like me, this sheltering in place might be starting to lose its luster. Working at home felt like a snow day for the first few weeks, but now I’m anxious to get back to “real life.” I feel like the world has slowed and for an extrovert, that’s not my favorite thing. I can feel myself getting antsy - ready to fly the coop. It feels like all this quiet time is going to my head!
But, while I’m chomping at the bit to get going, the Lord is issuing a beautiful invitation. The invitation to slow down, to quiet my spirit, and to refocus on Him is lovely. I’ll be honest - it feels oppressive (and boring) at times, but I know it’s a gift. Like the disciples, my restless confusion and frustration doesn’t phase the Lord. He shows up in the room and proclaims peace.
Peace be with you.
When Jesus appeared to the disciples, He offered peace in a time of unrest, fear, and confusion. The disciples had put their hope in Jesus, and He died. They had followed the Messiah, the King, and He’d been crucified. What kind of King, what kind of Savior is put to death? There was uncertainty and fear and confusion by the mile, and yet - the Lord showed up bringing peace.
Sisters, our world is in an uproar right now, and COVID 19 has caused an upheaval of “normal” life. But Jesus is still showing up to bring peace. I’m trying to stay in the peaceful place, in the quiet place. I’m trying not to give up on His peace and steadiness when I’m craving excitement and adventure. Maybe your world seems out of control. Maybe it feels like it’s on its axis and shifting fast. Or maybe you’re bored out of your mind. But wherever you are and whatever you’re working through, the Lord is showing up to teach you peace.
Father,
Thank You for arriving at the perfect moment with Your perfect peace. Thank You for the blessings of home and space that You’re offering to us now.
God, help us when we’re feeling antsy. Reveal to us the ways we can learn from the quiet times. Show us how to use our time and space at home to grow closer to You.
God, we love You. Help us to live each moment in Your peace. Amen.
