The True Me

“Cry out full-throated and unsparingly, lift up your voice like a trumpet blast;”

Y’all.  Have you ever truly cried out “like a trumpet blast?”  “Full-throated” “Unsparingly” I’ll be real - I’m a very loud person by nature, and I cannot remember crying out to the Lord like that … ever.  I don’t think that I’ve used my voice like a trumpet blast since about 1st grade when my inhibitions had yet to develop.

Now, I’m not saying that I don’t cry out to the Lord - that happens pretty frequently.  And, if you heard me, you might even think that I’m lifting up my voice like a trumpet blast because, well, I am loud.  I do most things loudly - singing, talking, praising, crying, praying, watching sports, etc… But I know what I’m capable of, and I know the disposition of my heart.

My interior life is mine alone.

Other than God, I’m the only one who can truly know my own heart.  I’m the only one who can truly know if I have given a trumpet blast - or if I can do better.  God and I are the only ones who can really know the true me.

Sisters, it is a beautiful gift to be known so intimately.  God knows the true me and the true you - in a way that no other being could possibly attain.  If I were a betting girl, I’d wager that He knows the true you better than you do.  Lean into that today. When you really want to break your fast today, lean into His intimacy with your true self.  Lean into Him, dig deep, and offer Him that trumpet blast.

Father,

Thank You knowing us better than anyone else and still choosing us.  Thank You for knowing our true selves and loving us - even when we fail to proclaim Your glory.

Teach us how to love You more deeply - to let out our own trumpet blast for Your glory.  Teach us how to stand in Your presence, know what we are capable of with You, and act in accordance with Your will.

God, we love You.  Help us to confess to our true selves and love You with abandon.  Amen.
