Hold Fast

“Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, by loving the LORD, your God, heeding His voice, and holding fast to Him.”

Sisters, I can easily own that I’m holding onto the Lord, but am I holding fast?  Do I cling to Him? I’ll admit it - not all the time. So today, I’m making space for clinging.  I’m making space to be needy. The Lord promises life and freedom and love to those who heed His voice and hold fast to Him, so I’m putting all my eggs in His basket.

So often, I look to other things for security - my family, my friends, my finances, etc… but I’ve come to realize that God is the only sure thing.  My God is the only thing that lasts, and He’s the only thing that is truly secure. His affection for me doesn’t shift based on my actions because He’s consistent through the ages.

Our God doesn’t change.

He doesn’t change - He’s always good, and He’s always faithful.  He’s always offering you His love and His affection. He is always patient with us and always kind.  He’s a generous Father, a protective Brother, an attentive Lover, and an active Spirit.

The more we hold fast to Him, the better He becomes because we see more and more of His flawless character.  The more we know Him, the more we see the depth of His goodness, and the more we want to become like Him. Today, I’ll tell my soul to hold fast to Him who never changes, to hold fast to Him who is beauty incarnate, and to hold fast to Him who loves me perfectly and always will.

Father,

Thank You for staying the same.  Thank You for not changing based on my goodness or my failings - thank You for loving me just the same no matter what.  Thank You for holding fast to me even when I don’t hold fast to You.

Teach me how to cling to You.  Teach me how to love You fearlessly - without worrying about being clingy or needy or rejected.  Remind me that You’re always good and always faithful and always kind to me - even when I don’t deserve it - even when we don’t deserve it.

God, we love You. Teach us to abide in Your steadiness today and every day.  Amen.
