Wanted

Woman with black hat between two rocks

“Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom He wanted”

Here’s the truth, girls - my single status comes complete with a bundle of emotions.  About once a month, I find myself at the corner of confidence and insecurity. I’m confident that He has a purpose and a plan for each moment of my single season, but I feel unseen.  I’m confident in His love and His promises, but I feel unchosen. I’m confident in myself and the woman He’s made me to be, but I feel unwanted.

The corner of confidence and insecurity feels a lot like camping out between a rock and a hard place.  And while I’m camping in the painful and difficult place (most likely longing for human validation), Jesus chooses me.  Just as Jesus “summoned those whom He wanted” in the Gospel, He summons us. He wants us.  He chooses us, and we’re wanted by Him.  You might feel unseen and unchosen and unwanted, but you aren’t.

You are wanted.

He wants you.  You are His choice.  There’s a difference between obligation and desire.  There’s a difference between inviting you along and wanting you to be there.  He wants. He misses you when you’re not there. You’re not an obligation to Him - you are a choice.

He chooses you; He summons you to leave your camp between the rock and the hard place to follow Him up the mountain.  He invites you up out of the lies and the insecurity and into belief in the truth. Sometimes choosing the truth of who you are and who He made you to be feels like climbing a mountain, but it’s worth following Him.  It’s worth following the one who chooses you every time. It’s worth following the one who wants you.

Father,

Thank You for inviting us to come up higher. Thank You for wanting us. Thank You for choosing us and seeing us and knowing us. Thank You that we’re important to You. Thank You that You’re truly and deeply enough for us.

Father, teach us how to lean on You the most. Teach us how to set our sights on You. Teach us to long for You and Your opinion above all others. Teach us how to come to You first for validation and attention and love.

God, we love You. Oh, how we love You, God. Bring us up to Your level, Father. Teach us a new way. Amen.
