Come After Me
“Come after me,”
Oh how I love this verse. It seems to echo within me. I can just feel the Lord lean in and whisper, “Come after me” with a playful smile and a slightly mischievous wink. “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men. Come after me, and I will transform you. Come after me, and I will give you something better. Come after me because I have a higher calling in store for you.”
He promises to make us fishers of men - whether traveling across the globe or living in your hometown - it doesn’t matter. There is no higher calling, no task more important than sharing God’s love. God’s best is Himself. Nothing can top Him and His love. So He asks us to come after Him and become fishers of men. And when we leave all to come after Him, God doesn’t leave us empty.
Just as He is inviting us to come after Him, He is coming after us.
Our God is always pursuing, and my heart longs for the pursuit only God can give. When our hearts whisper, “come after me,” He comes. He is always coming after us, and He invites us to return His pursuit - to come after Him with the same ardent love that He carries for us. Perhaps that’s why this verse strikes me - while He’s calling, “come after me,” my heart is asking Him to do the same.
And He answers. He always answers. His pursuit is endless. He wants all of you, and He will stop at nothing. He calls, “Come after me, and I will give you so much love than you cannot help but become a fisher of men.”
Father,
Thank You for Your love. Thank You for ardently coming after us. Thank You for pursuing us more deeply than we could ever dream to pursue You. Thank You for loving the pursuit. Thank You for loving to love us.
God, help us to come after You. Help us to run after You and to seek to please You above all else. Help us to leave our nets to follow You.
God, we love You. Help us to come after You with abandon. Amen.
