For Your Good
“I, the LORD, your God, teach you what is for your good,”
For your good. The Father teaches you what is for your good because He is for you. He is on your team. He is rooting for you. He is cheering from the stands. He answers prayers. He fills desires. He provides peace. He brings joy. He wants what’s best. He is a loving God with a good, good heart. Our God is for us.
But, sometimes that feels hard to believe. Usually, when we struggle to trust God, it is because we’re grappling with His intentions. When our desires go unmet, it’s easy to slip into distrust of God’s goodness. The clash between our desires and God’s divine timing often results in a struggle to believe that God is good. We struggle to trust He is for us. BUT…
Our God has good intentions.
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably felt this clash in the area of single-hood. When my expectations go unmet in the area of singleness, I’m tempted to doubt that God is for me. When I’m disappointed about a relationship or lack thereof, I’m tempted to forget that God has good intentions.
But God loves me. And He loves you. He loves you more than you could even fathom. He has a beautiful plan for your life, and His intentions are good. Everything He teaches you is for your good. He wants goodness for you. He wants freedom for you. He wants joy for you. Everything He does is for your good.
Father,
Thank You for having good intentions - the best intentions for us. Thank You for loving us and choosing us always - even when we don’t trust You, even when we’re upset with You. Thank You for being so gentle, so tender, and so patient with us.
Father - help us. We need help to follow You. We need help trusting Your love for us. We’ve never encountered a love like Yours. In this world, we’ve been hurt and betrayed and lied to. Show us Your heart so we can learn how to trust it.
God, we love You. You know we do. Please help us to trust Your love for us. Amen.
