On the Look-Out
“I believe that I shall see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living.”
Belief. Belief carries power. I’m sure you know a Negative Nancy who refuses to see the good, who lives in negativity, and who rejects any possibility that their circumstances could ever change. Nancy believes that her life will never get better, and so it becomes true. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.
But then, you see someone who chooses joy. You see someone who chooses gratitude and belief in goodness and love. Even though that person encounters difficulties, they’re not shaken; they’re grateful for the gifts that they do have. They put their trust in someone greater.
Belief offers us power over our circumstances.
When we choose belief, we’re taking ground for Christ. When we choose belief, we choose our perspective - we don’t allow our circumstances to be bigger than God. When we choose belief, we re-affirm that God is God. We re-affirm that He can do anything.
Believing when we don’t see, believing when we don’t have hard evidence, prepares us to catch blessings. Negative Nancy’s depressing self-prophecy prevents her from seeing the good. But when we choose belief, we’re training ourselves to see God in the every day and to expect miracles. When our hearts are filled with gratitude and belief, we’re ready to see God come through for us. We anticipate it; we hope for it.
We’re on the look-out for blessings.
Belief leads to blessing because belief opens our eyes to see blessings more clearly - both blessings that have been there all along and blessings to come. If I believe I will see good things of the Lord in the land of the living, I probably will. I can choose to be like Nancy - to believe that things will never get better, or I can choose belief. Sisters, I’m on the look-out. I choose belief.
Father,
Thank You for Your faithfulness to us. Thank You for always showing up. Thank You for being a God of provision and a God of miracles. Thank You for being someone worthy of trust, worthy of belief.
Father, help us to believe in You. Help us to believe in Your promises. Help us to believe that the best is yet to come.
Father, we love You. Please help. Amen.
