Stay Until You Leave

“Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there.”

Stay until you leave.  There are seasons of life when I’m in the desert, but there are also seasons when I’m in Eden.  I’ve worked through stuff in Eden, and I’ve worked through stuff in the desert. When I’m in an Eden season, I never complain.  But when I’m in the desert. Oh boy. The Lord gets an earful.

When I’m in a desert season, today’s verse comes alive, “stay until you leave.”  Stay until the work is done. Stay until you’ve made a resolution. Stay until you’ve made a decision.  Stay until you’re ready to let Him go deeper. Stay until He moves the boulder. Stay until you learn something new.

Stay until He says it’s time to leave.

Ladies, it’s hard to stay in the desert.  I spend most of my time in the desert just waiting to leave.  I don’t want to be there, and so I forget to stay in the moment, to learn the lesson, to wait on the Lord - because waiting is not a word that I appreciate.  Waiting doesn’t come naturally. Most people would describe me as a woman of action, but sometimes the action is WAIT. And that is hard, but it is good.

Wait on the Lord.  He will move. He will act.  He is a man of action. He’s arranging all the things that need to be arranged.  He’s doing the work. He might be moving behind the scenes, but that doesn’t mean He isn’t moving.  He says to stay until you leave. So stay, so that when you do leave, it’s on His time.

Father,

Thank You for inviting us to wait on You. Thank You for creating times and spaces for us to be “away” with You. Thank You for teaching us hard lessons.

Help us to be receptive to Your teaching. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on Your vision and Your timeline instead of our own.

God, we love You. We want to live for You. Help us to wait on You and to live in gratitude for all the ways You’re moving - all the movement we can see right now and all the movement we can’t. Amen.
