Like a Child

Father holding and smiling at toddler outside during the golden hour

“He stooped toward me and heard my cry.”

Imagine yourself as a child before the Father - maybe at 3 or 4 years old.  Imagine God’s tenderness toward you. Imagine His patience. His concern. His love.  Imagine Him stooping toward you to help you tie your shoe or bandage a skinned knee or teach you something new.

Imagine your cries for help.  Perhaps you can’t reach your cup of water or are frustrated with a sibling who stole a toy out of your hand.  Consider how often parents hear, “Daaaaadddddyyyyy” or “Moooooooom” from the other room. Children call, they need, they ask - freely.  And, as good parents meets the needs of their children, God the Father is happy to meet the needs of His.

Our Heavenly Father loves to meet your needs.

Our Heavenly Father loves to meet your needs.  The tenderness that God the Father holds for that little child is the same tenderness He holds for you now.  Every cry, every wail, every ache, every complaint - He hears. He knows, and He loves to stoop down to listen to your heart.

As mature adults, we often hesitate to inconvenience others - God included.  But children have no qualms about inconveniencing their mothers or fathers. When Jesus tells us to be like children, He encourages us to ask questions as children do, to cry out as children do, and to bring our needs before Him as children do.  Let Him stoop toward you. Let Him hear Your cry. He wants to be Your Savior. Let Him.

Father,

Thank You for stooping low. Thank You for stooping towards us and for choosing us time and time again.

Father, teach us how to ask for Your help and to accept the help that You offer. Help us to be like children - curious, inquisitive, eager, honest. Help us to turn toward You for answers and for help instead of grasping for control or cowering in fear.

God, we love You. Help us accept You as our Savior and our Father again and again. Amen.
